Resort Description

Casually elegant, beachfront resort set amidst lovely tropical gardens – Shaped like a modern terraced Mayan pyramid, this recently renovated resort is on a crescent-shaped white-sand beach on secluded Maeva Bay, facing a deep-water lagoon. It's on the island's west coast, near Papeete and 9 miles from Moorea. The interior designer was inspired by the idea of a luxury liner that has retired to a tropical paradise.

Accommodations: Your room or suite has stylish contemporary furnishings, air-conditioning, coffee/tea maker, a mini-bar, plasma TV with satellite, wireless Internet access, a radio, a safe deposit box, bathrobes, a hairdryer, and a private balcony with a table, chairs, and a mountain, garden, lagoon, or pool view. TIP: Accommodations on the upper floors facing the beach have partial views of Moorea. Sleep soundly in Sofitel's MyBed. BONUS: One child stays free with his or her parents. Rooms are availablefor those with reduced mobility.

Dining & Entertainment: The view of the lagoon is as pretty as a picture from Le Bougainville. The restaurant has a traditional thatched structure, allowing cool breezes to glide through and the scent of tiare, frangipani, and bougainvillea to fill the air. Breakfast is laid out around a circular open kitchen, lunch is a la carte, and dinner is buffet or a la carte with an international menu that changes seasonally. Wednesday night features an Asian buffet; Friday night, a barbecue buffet. Plan to be at the restaurant for its Sunday lunch Polynesian show. Light meals, snacks, and tropical cocktails are served poolside at the Moorea Snack Bar. It hosts a daily happy hour, is a wonderful place to watch the sunset, and provides live musical entertainment on Thursday and Friday. For teppanyaki and the freshest seafood, make arrangements to dine at the stylish Sakura Japanese restaurant. The resort also offers room service.

Recreation: Relax on the beautiful white-sand beach and under the warmth of the sun. Water sports, such as sailing, parasailing, scuba diving, and water-skiing, are great fun. Go for a leisurely swim in the outdoor infinity-edge pool, play a few games of tennis, and practice your swing on the golf driving range. You can beat a quiet retreat to a hammock in the gardens. If you're feeling adventurous, ask the tour desk to help arrange a helicopter tour, a jeep safari in the mountains, or a deep-sea fishing excursion. Ask about baby-sitting services.
