Accommodations: Period-inspired furnishings of mahogany and rattan or wicker create a charming historical simplicity to the 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-bedroom cottages. Standard amenities include a lanai, ceiling fans, cable TV, a DVD player, an in-room safe, an iron and an ironing board, and a kitchen with a refrigerator, a coffee maker, a microwave oven, a rice cooker, and a blender. The 5-bedroom Managers House has a Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom, a washer and a dryer, and a private garage. Each of the Kruse House's 5 bedrooms has a private entrance, and the master suite has a seating room with kitchenette. You also can stay in a studio. Have a restful sleep in a king-size, queen-size, double, twin, or bunk bed. There's 3rd-day housekeeping service, high-speed wireless Internet access, and a coin-operated laundry. Nearby the resort offers the Kauai Harbor House and the Hanalei Fay House and Cottage.

Dining & Entertainment: Traditional pub fare, tropical delicacies, delicious desserts, distinctive brews, and colorful cocktails are on the menu at the Waimea Brewing Company. On special nights, it hosts live Hawaiian music or a bluegrass band. You can barbecue a meal outdoors or prepare something in your accommodations' kitchen. Arrange for an intimate dinner in a seaside cabana, accompanied by romantic music. Request personalized food and beverage service, in which a chef prepares and serves a meal in your guest quarters. Area dining options include everything from brick oven pizza, to gourmet cuisine, to a luau on the beach.

Recreation: Play volleyball on the black-sand beach, and test your skill at shuffleboard. NOTE: Weather conditions can make the ocean waters murky, so check out the swimming pool with the large sundeck. Relax in the inviting jet spa. The day spa promotes health and well-being with massages, body wraps, body scrubs, facials, acupuncture, and yoga. Area recreation includes golf, tennis, snorkeling, surfing, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, helicopter touring, and all-terrain vehicle riding. Take time to visit the Waimea Sugar Mill Camp Museum for insight into the history and culture of plantation communities, the core of 19th-century Hawaiian life.
