Luxury accommodations with elegant design on Mexico's Caribbean coast – A world-class collection of Mexican sculpture and art installations, man-made canals, and winding paths complement the Yucatan Peninsula's renowned backdrop of green jungles and blue Caribbean waters at this elegant luxury resort, Mandarin Oriental's first in Mexico. Sleek, modern villas are designed in harmony with their natural surroundings, so much so that naturally shy and elusive sea turtles nest undisturbed on the white-sand beach. A large cenote, a freshwater lake held sacred by the ancient Mayans, lies at the center of the 36-acre property.

Accommodations: Guest rooms are housed within 2-story villas and bungalows that are spread throughout the property. All feature balconies or ground-floor terraces, and all have views the ocean, freshwater Cenote, saltwater lagoon, or the lagoon's tributaries. Amenities include air-conditioning, satellite TV, high-speed internet, in-room safe, and mini-bar. Most feature private plunge pools or outdoor stone bathtubs. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

Dining & Entertainment: All meals are served a la carte. Aquamarine has both an air-conditioned dining room and a patio where guests can dine alfresco while they choose from a creative, ever-evolving menu. Ambar overlooks the lagoon and mangroves, and serves international favorites prepared with a distinct Asian influence. Ceviche is a lunch spot with views of the ocean, serving fresh seafood. Snacks, light fare, and drinks are available at the Pool & Beach Bar. M-Bar is the resort's chic rooftop lounge. For afternoon tea and early evening cocktails, head to the Lobby Lounge.

Recreation: Guests have exclusive access to 2 pools and a white-sand beach. Try an array of water sports like kayaking and windsurfing, and get toned on the latest equipment in the fully-outfitted exercise center. There's also yoga and Pilates classes, and 2 miles of jogging trails. Golfers take note -- there are 3 championship golf courses within 5 miles of the property. A kids' club entertains travelers ages 4-8, and baby-sitting services are provided. Off-site excursions include deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, horseback riding, zip lining, and tours of the region's wealth of Mayan archaeological sites. The world's second largest coral reef borders the shore here, and is easily accessible for snorkeling. The 25,000-square-foot spa incorporates a variety of treatments from around the world, as well as Mayan-inspired specialties. There are treatment rooms for couples, and even a cafe for healthy snacks.
